I am running Feisty Fawn Herd 1 (AMD64), and I'm also having this issue. The temp fix as listed above: sudo rm /var/cache/apt/*.bin worked for me.
All apt-related commands would SEGFAULT in this scenario. I kept the .bin files from /var/cache/apt incase I would need to reproduce this. I am running: apt: Version: 0.6.46.3ubuntu1 Architecture: amd64 apt-utils: Version: 0.6.46.3ubuntu1 Architecture: amd64 If I copy the .bin files back into /var/cache/apt and try to run an apt- related command, I will get a SEGFAULT again. I can't determine if this is still an open issue with Feisty. If it is still open, please let me know and I will upload the .bin files.
