Thanks Artur. I revisited this section and could replicate what you stated.
When I placed the cursor above a folder as you describe I was able to see the pop up giving the two options and found that I could colour the folder as a single folder. It appears that I have possibly miss-understood the documentation as what I was attempting to do was to add colour to sub folders. I had opened /home /ian and it was the individual folders within ian that I had hoped to change rather than the background for home / ian. Was I expecting too much by wanting to take it down it /home / ian / accounts level?
