Thanks for the info, assigning to gutenprint. According to linuxprinting.org database the gutenprint driver is the only driver that can be used for your Epson C86 printer.
I think either the gutenprint driver is slower or some settings can be changed to make it print faster. Perhaps you can find someone with the same printer on the linuxprinting.org forums or on the gutenprint forums (http://sourceforge.net/forum/forum.php?forum_id=4359) that can confirm this or knows a solution.
