cups 1.3.9-17ubuntu3.2 with poppler 0.10.5-1ubuntu2.2 works for me. The PDFs are now printed correctly in duplex and the font do not have spurious lines. Printing pictures with eog works, too (after upgrading the RAM of the printer).
