Confirmation: I just printed Professor Gemminger's slides (see attachments) from Mac OS X 10.5.7. Settings: 2 slides per side, duplex. I had to wait a few seconds (maybe less than 10?) per sheet, but it works quite fast.
About the funny background: I zoomed in and saw the strange pattern the author used.
