"restart KPilot"?

The thing is: version 0 will only apply when there is indeed no
configuration saved yet, which means that you clearly didn't configure
KPilot for use (at least that is what it spits out to stdout). Once it
displayed that incredibly long message it will quit, so technically it
is correct.

You need to start kpilot, which will present you with the config dialog,
to then change your config and thus proceed with using the application.
Although, your more advanced perception is that kpilot is spitting out
that message, so I suppose "restart" would feel more natural for you,
right?
