I entered the command, and a page with four lines was printed.

The command line on the terminal never returned.

I don't know if this is relevant, but it's related to the last part of
the previous comment.  Often when I turn on the printer and hook it up,
the system doesn't find the printer.  I enter lsusb, and then it's
there.
