I really want to provide you with this info, but I keep running into a
problem with several things I try to do in Ubuntu; in this case making
changes to my source list.

This is obviously a noob problem. When I try to go somewhere to edit or
access a file, I often get "Permission denied". My only way around this is
when I luck out and am prompted for my password to gain admin privileges.
However I haven't figured out the magic command or process to say to my
OS, "I want to do such and such as admin NOW!"

I know I could just do the GRANT *.* thing to my profile, but I'm trying
to stay more secure than that.

Can you help me with that info?

Thanks!
