Thanks for the sudo tip Sebastien! That connected a lot of dots for me. I'm
a little closer now, but still stuck.

Here's what I tried in the terminal:

        sudo /etc/apt/sources.list

        sudo /filesystem/etc/apt/sources.list

Each of those returned; 'Command not found', or 'location unknown' or
something like that. I think I discovered that / is the root, so adding
'filesystem' is just redundant. Am I right?

Then just tried doing the old cd drill-down method, just as I would with
Windows. I successfully changed directory to /etc/apt but now cannot figure
out open sources.list from there.

I drilled down in the GUI by going to Places -> Computer and opened the
sources.list file in text editor, but then I don't have the permissions to
save changes after adding the lines your link instructed.

A thousand apologies for my noobness. At this point I'm still all drive and
no vector...

you can use use sudo before the command you want to use, ie sudo editor
sources.list

Status in "totem" package in Ubuntu: Incomplete

Bug description:
Binary package hint: totem

Totem closes while attempting to resize or full screen the window; via drag
or double-click. However, on occasion it will squash an anamorphic
widescreen movie into a 4:3 full screen (everything is tall & thin).
Attempts to resize either remain squashed or close Totem altogether.

This only happens with actual DVD discs. I've been playing movies I ripped
to .avi (xvid & .AC3) without error.

I am using Ubuntu 9.04 and am a total noob...working on converting from
"Windoze" (advanced with that, so any translative language would be much
appreciated).

I followed some forum threads about installing codecs and upgrading
programs.

Please advise...
