Pedro, It is still happening.
Wednesday morning, I installed Xubuntu 9.04 on some older computers I had laying around the house. Network manager still wants to use the same password that was being used when I first installed the system. I have not used Karmic, so I can't comment on it. The issue doesn't seem to be with XFCE either, as the first time I experienced it I was on Linux Mint running Gnome. Thank you for your reply, by the way It's good to see the community in action.
