Public bug reported: Binary package hint: udev
My soundcard is not detected (snd-hda-intel) I tryed : - To edit alsabase.conf in order ton include the "options model=" line (using all the relevant models one by one) none to avail. (restarting alsa or the computer) - To restart alsa (force-reload): Unloading ALSA sound driver modules: (none loaded). Loading ALSA sound driver modules: (none to reload). - When I "modprobe snd-hada-intel" before the force reload : Loading ALSA sound driver modules: snd-hda-intel snd-hda-codec snd-pcm-oss snd-mixer-oss snd-pcm snd-seq-dummy snd-seq-oss snd-seq-midi snd-rawmidi snd-seq-midi-event snd-seq snd-timer snd-seq-device snd-page-alloc. But then, If I try to restart pulseaudio, I get an error message - unable to start the deamon. - cat /proc/asound/card/ gives me "no files or folder..." - lspci | grep audio does not generate any response - I have nothing listed as an audio device in /dev -I tried adding myself to the audio group (sudo addgroup username audio) - I'm already a member of this group - I dont have any audio device listed with lshw - I tried to purge-reinstall alsa/pulseaudio, none to avail - cat /proc/asound/card0/codec* | grep Codec gives me "no file or folder..." - aplay -l gives me : device_list:223: no soundcard found - I also tryed the pulseaudio ppa - no results. - I did erase /.pulse and .pulse-cookie each time I tryed to fix the problem -The results of the alsa-info.sh script can be found here : http://www .alsa-project.org/db/?f=a9e1d4cd08437a3dcf17ace06b7778e1d03bc47a I'm not sure if this is an Alsa bug, an Udev bug or a pulseaudio bug, but as the card is not detected and the module not loaded, my guess is this is an Udev problem. I've read all the bug reports in launchpad and tryed all the proposed solutions. My laptop is a toshiba U300 model - I never had problems with audio since gutsy. My system is up to date (I was waiting for kernel 2.6.31-11 to hit the repos before reporting because I read (don't remember where on launchpad) that a solution to this problem was included in this kernel version - but the problem still persist. Please fix this regression before the final release - I am in need of music, my computer being my sound system ;-) Regards, and beside this "small" problem, I must say Karmic is awsome!
