Okay, folks, so I just kept updating and updating and it finally worked itself out. Be sure to remove all plasmoids from the desktop. On another machine I updated that was causing the problems. I figured it out as it kept crashing as soon as that plasmoid tried to install. Make sure you are getting the kernel updates. Also, KPackageKit Will hold back certain updates for some reason. I am not sure why or the logic behind it and could never find a reason but if you use CLI apt-get or Synaptic GUI instead, you will have all the updates installed. Frequently do CLI "apt-get autoremove", "apt-get autoclean" and "apt-get clean" so that you will get fresh update files. Sometimes I find that if a file exists in the apt cache it will get skipped when updating.
Also, be sure to have the latest video driver. If you are using nVidia, be sure to do your research on updating. DO NOT CHOOSE THE FIRST ONE YOU FIND. Read through several solutions first. I tend to get a little antsy and think if the first one I see sounds good I'll try that. Just keep reading down the search engine page. It will become blatantly clear which one to choose by the time you get to the bottom.
