I am having the same problem here. Please help I beg.
I have a new Dell inspiron 1525n laptop. I just wiped it and installed a fresh
Ubuntu9.10.
I selected the Broadcom STA wireless driver in "Hardware Drivers".
I rebooted the laptop but now network manager shows (greyed out) wireless is
disabled.
When i do Ifconfig it shows the wireless driver as eth2 eth0 is the wired lan
card.

eth2 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 70:1a:04:6d:5f:2b
          inet6 addr: fe80::721a:4ff:fe6d:5f2b/64 Scope:Link
UP BROADCAST RUNNING MULTICAST MTU:1500 Metric:1
          RX packets:0 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0
          TX packets:0 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0
          collisions:0 txqueuelen:1000
          RX bytes:0 (0.0 B) TX bytes:0 (0.0 B)
          Interrupt:17 Base address:0xc000

Iwconfig gives me this

eth2 IEEE 802.11bg ESSID:"" Nickname:""
          Mode:Managed Frequency:2.412 GHz Access Point: Not-Associated
          Bit Rate:54 Mb/s Tx-Power:off
          Retry min limit:7 RTS thr:off Fragment thr:off
          Power Managementmode:All packets received

So the wireless seems to be OK it looks like a problem with Network Manager.
How do i fix this
please i beg.
