tiger99, try removing your ~/.vmc2, it worked for me. After I did the kernel upgrade, vmc always either quits automatically, or nothing happens when I click "Connect", it took me a long while to realize its configuration problem. After I removed .vmc2, and reconfigure the APN, I am using it now. :)
