Hi Narcissus, Thanks for the suggestion. My USB mouse can't be plugged in a PS/2 port as my Acer 7920 laptop does not have a PS/2 port (only USB ports for the mouse). I have changed the mouse to another spare optical USB mouse.
The funny part is I have no problems whatsoever on my Desktop PC which has the same Ubuntu settings and programs! Also, the laptop was running great till about a few weeks ago.
