Benjamin: I looked at the source for sat4j, and it makes use of java 5 features, so the dependency will have to be more restrictive than you have said. Perhaps "default-jre-headless | java6-runtime-headless | java5-runtime- headless".
Also I don't understand your comments about java6-sdk. java6-sdk is a metapackage, which is provided by default-jdk, openjdk-6-jdk, and sun- java6-jdk. What does it mean to say that a metapackage is not free enough, or that a metapackage is not in universe?
