Reloading modules (my previous comment) works only after suspending and waking up the system. When the system is booted from power off, wireless is turned off and reloading the module does not help to reenable wireless. When the system is restored from suspend, wireless remains turned on, dmesg shows "ath9k: Unable to set channel" messages and reloading the ath9k module helps to get wireless working.
