Again thank you very much for your help.

I have just installed: Mainline 2.6.24-rc7 from the given link.

A first test has shown a stable transfer rate of 3.2 MB/s which is ok.

I also noticed almost no transfer delays. With the old kernel the
transfer would get stuck sometimes and resume after 2-3 seconds.

Yesterday I did a file transfer test to my notebook with the old
kernel which was around 240 kb/s. Dmesg showed a "firmware error"
message.

I will keep testing the new kernel :-)
