I have issues with Compiz performance in Expo only. Sometimes it will be silky smooth, other times it'll stutter at 30-40fps. It seems to be totally random, and changes upon reboot. Window movement is silky smooth all the time.
I've been doing some experimenting. Turning off sync to vblank in compiz config settings manager makes Expo work fast. Sync to vblank in nvidia- settings seems to have no effect on compiz being sync'd or not (yes I restart compiz after changing the setting). My setup is a Phenom 9850 (2.5GHz, 4 cores), GeForce GTX260 216 OC, 4Gb DDR2-800, Ubuntu 10.04 AMD64, Samsung 225BW (1680x1050 LCD). Compiz is set to not detect refresh rate, forced to 120 frames per second. Currently, sync to vblank causes slow performance with compiz, and with it disabled, compiz uses about 68% of a single core @ 2.5GHz and 1.25GHz (makes no difference) going in and out of Expo constantly. I'll have to test further when I happen to get good performance on boot up.
