Hi all. As a user in China, I would be happy to see Baidu in the list of
search engines, but I won't make it my default. It is true Baidu
specifically targets at Chinese users, and it has a greater market
share. But generally "advanced" users tend to use Google much more.
AFAIK, one important reason why a majority of Chinese users use Baidu
rather than Google is that "Google" is difficult to pronounce and spell
for users whose native language is Chinese and who don't know English
well. For Ubuntu users, this obviously is not the case. The
pronunciation of "Ubuntu" is even more difficult.

Michael mentioned the departure of Google from China. Actually, Google
still has its subsidiary in Beijing. They merely removed all their
servers from mainland China, and redirect google.cn to google.com.hk.
Their service in Chinese is not discontinued. The only problem is that
connection may get reset if you search for, or the result contains,
something the government considers "sensitive". For this reason, I add
"Baidu" to my list of search engines, but it's not the default. I only
use it when the f**king firewall resets my connection with Google.
