appears when the printer is off. So that's irrelevant. However this change occurs in connection. The connection changes from "local or detected printer" on port LPT1 to a Network printer on this URI: parallel:/dev/lp0 But this does not change thing. I know that something is downloading to the printer, because if I take the printer offline and form feed, an inch or so from the top of the document prints out.
