Resolved now by using the mainline kernel 2.6.36! All power functions
work great, no matter what kind of LAN/WLAN/GSM card is plugged in.
Additionally the maverick kernel seems to have a PCMCIA hot-plug problem
which caused a segmentation fault and the need to reboot after pulling a
PCMCIA card - this is also gone now.

** Package changed: pm-utils (Ubuntu) => linux-meta (Ubuntu)

--
maverick: suspend / hibernate work only correctly by timeout or low battery
events, but not on request (button or menu) - resuming then fails (might also
be kernel or xorg issue)
