The errors from apt-get are unrelated to this bug. There's a chance they were transient, so you might try again and see if it works.
I'm a little surprised the psmouse-alps-dkms package didn't help, because someone else reported it to work with their G550. Could you attach the output from dmesg following a fresh boot with that package installed?
