I have also this problem with 11.10. My root device is just a normal SSD, but the /home logical volume and an additional logical volume is a lvm which currently only has /dev/md0 as physical disks. /dev/md0 is a raid 1 with /dev/sda1 and /dev/sdc1 in it.
