Ubuntu 11.10 shipped with both aufs and overlayfs. Arkose on 11.10 only
support aufs.

Starting with arkose in 12.04, both aufs and overlayfs are supported
(though it'll print an error if overlayfs isn't around but continue
anyway).

You could try with the newer arkose on 11.10 by taking it from ppa
:arkose-devel/stable

It sounds like the problem here is that the "virtual" kernel in the
cloud images has been so stripped down that we simply don't have the
needed modules for arkose to work.

I believe 12.04 switched to a more complete kernel for cloud images so
hopefully that got fixed.

Alternatively you could try to use the "bind" instead of the "cow"
option which is a lot more limited but won't use aufs.

I'm marking this bug as won't fix at least as arkose is concerned as there's
little I can do if the kernel doesn't contain the required modules.
