** Description changed:

My Dell Precision M4500 trackpad is detected as a mouse instead of a
trackpad, this means that the Gnome System->Preferences->Mouse application does
not show the Trackpad settings.
This means I cannot disable the touchpad tap-to-click functionality off and
because it is very sensitive, typing without the cursor jumping around is a
problem.

I have tried upgrading to Maverick-Proposed to see if the bug fix for
this bug https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/380126 would fix it, but it
  didn't.
+
+ Applying the fix in https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/754344 allows the
+ touchpad on the Precision M4500 to be recognized as a Trackpad, but I
+ cannot disable the Tap to Click feature.
