I would assume it is possible to corrupt the guest account if you log in
as administrator and change settings within the guest account. Not sure
it it reverts back to default settings once logged out or not.

Anwser you question, Ask ubuntu has a post about the default guest
sessions settings. http://askubuntu.com/questions/9515/how-do-i-change-
the-guest-session-defaults

I created a "new user" account which should set everything up with the
default settings still no good.

I have been hard on Ubuntu on this issue. In their defense NVIDIA is
broke on GNOME 3 too. So I take back my anger.

I DO HAVE A temp FIX SUGGESTION. I think Canonical/Ubuntu should remove
all the NVIDIA drivers in the system that we know do not work and let
the ones that do work stay up until a long term fix is made. This issue
will hurt Ubuntu in long term if it is not done. Then if someone wants
the newer drivers, they can break their system.
