Hello, I get exactly the same errors when trying to start compiz (and also all the "visuals" warning in Xorg.0.log from AIGLX).
The video card is an ATI Radeon 9250. DRI is enabled and works fine (though slow of course, but no worse than in Dapper) with Googleearth or any other 3D app. It's only just compiz that doesn't want to start, and also metacity. I mean I thought/assumed that in edgy you could get 2 or 3 effect with it, out of the box, as soon as you tick the "compositing_manager" key in Gconf (apps/metacity/general ), but alas, when I do that, nothing at all happens.
