Just to add some more info: If I boot the previous kernel in Recovery Mode, the 
screen says:
Begin: Loading essential drivers ... done.
Begin: Running /scripts/init-premount ... done.
Begin: Mounting root file system ... Begin: Running /script/local-top ... 
Reading all physical volumes.   This may take a while...
  No volume groups found
  No volume groups found
cryptsetup: evms_activate is not available
Begin: Waiting for encrypted source device... ...
