Thank you for taking the time to report this and make Ubuntu better. I
tried this using a 12.04 live CD and I cannot reproduce the behavior.
Can you confirm whether it is still a problem for you? If it is, do you
have any users logged in the virtual terminals? If you have any other
users logged in it may fail to shutdown, that is an already filed issue.
