I'm sorry to say that the issue is not just with the live CD. I installed with the alternate of Lubuntu (20121001) on the aforementioned GeForce FX Go5200 and no luck still: http://paste.ubuntu.com/1256127/
In fact, the screen is far worse and even more unusable if you use the nomodeset parameter than in the desktop.
