I'm unsubscribing from this bug. This is ridiculous. This bug will NEVER be solved because everyone assumes that each type of crash is a different bug, refusing to believe the possibility that one single bug can affect different chipsets/hardware in different ways (completely freezing some, but not others). Until this bug gets high-level Canonical attention, the only hope anyone has is for an upstream fix to magically come down in the updates and solve it, assuming of course this isn't Ubuntu-specific.
