Public bug reported:

The Ubuntu Edgy Eft release will not install on my brand new Dell desktop. I
downloaded the iso and burned it to a cd-r from this URL:
http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/cdimage/releases/edgy/knot-2/edgy-desktop-i386.iso

It checks fine. The splash screen is familiar and I selected no options.
I tried all boot methods. I used F6 and added "live" and even tried
noacpi -- but nothing works. I am unable to get to CTRL-ALT-F1 through
F8 screens and there is no X. I tried the safe 640x480 mode and only a
black screen. After the splash I see a test pattern rectangle with text
inside it. The text appears as though it is the console text screen. But
I am unable to access it to enter anything. I wonder if it is related to
my ATI Radeon X600 256MB video card? everything else is totally normal.
CPU = D-940, RAM=1GB, disk=160GB SATA-II.

Are there any suggestions?
thanks,
Ken
