Very well put Nick. Ubuntu users must adhere to a growth strategy in order for this to work... Many people are not willing to give up windows yet and that's all well and fine. Ubuntu is not ready to provide everything that certain market segments need, and thats just where we're at right now. Hopefully, Ubuntu will gradually gain more and more 'market share' if you will and it should be exponential as exposure increases and improvements are made. A user should never have to use the terminal, but in many cases they have to - take eclipse pdt for example, or trying to get the beryl window manager installed on many systems.
