I wouldn't worry too much about the patches disappearing. As long as they don't cause any regressions while the proposed kernel is being tested, then you should see the updated kernel and backlight fixes go out very soon. Some more info on the stable release cadence can be found here:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Kernel/StableReleaseCadence The backlight issues for this laptop have been rather tricky to address, and the 3.8 kernels for raring are the first ones to natively carry any of the work from upstream in them (hence no need for a special ppa). As you can see, it's taken some work to get it right, but, 13.04 and higher should eventually contain a permanent fix. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1169376 Title: XPS13 backlight stopped working after update 3.8.0-18.28 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/dell-sputnik/+bug/1169376/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
