Just upgraded to kernel 3.8.0-22-generic, and HDMI works now! Pulseaudio displays "HDMI / Display Port" in sound settings, and allows to switch to it. Sound transfers through HDMI via ATI HD 6450 (CAICOS) to sound-powered display perfectly.
