I have just started seeing this problem on a newly installed Xubuntu 32bit 14.04 on a netbook (Atom cpu, 1GBram, Intel integrated gpu). It coincided with me enabling hibernation by adding the file as shown in http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=2219403, but that may be pure coincidence as the error occurs from cold boot and wake from hibernation. I have always pressed a key to continue and don't know if it will continue even if I dont. I have added the line GRUB_SAVEDEFAULT=true to /etc/default/grub as suggested at post #30 and will report back results after many reboots or wakes from hibernation.
