FOLLOW-UP: I retried to install prime-indicator and that was successful this time. However: NVIDIA Prime still does NOT show the prime profiles and though the prime-indicator is now present and allows me to do a quick switch (the X-server is restarted), the only active graphics is the Mesa DRI Intel Haswell Mobile graphics.
