I have created a separate partition on my HD, installed Ubuntu 4.10 from
the DVD, upgraded to the latest kernel 3.16.25 from the repository, and
then installed kernel 3.18-rc5 according to the instructions on the web.
The installation reports a known bug. I then reboot. I have no idea
how to copy the page of output that results, including a kernel panic to
some place where I can post it. The output includes:

request_module: runaway loop modprobe binfmt-464C [5 copies]
Failed to execute /init (error -8)
Starting init: /sbin/init exists but couldn't execute it (error -8)
Starting init: /bin/sh exists but couldn't execute it (error -8)
Kernel panic - not syncing: no working init found. Try passing init= option to
kernel ...
