Installed Xubuntu 15.04 this past week on two machines and immediately started experiencing this very frustrating problem on both. This is what worked for me: Set mouse cursor theme to something other than default in the regular settings - In my case DMZ (Black), and I'm assuming your's also since this what we're trying to make work. Open Thunar as root. Go to File System > usr>share>icons>default. Right click on index.theme then open with Mousepad. Modify Inherits=DMZ-White to Inherits=DMZ-Black. Save and exit then restart Xubuntu, you should be all set. Tested om my main desktop rig running AMD A8 and on my laptop running older i3.
