Hello, I have some further information which I attach hoping it will help to solve the problem.
I ran strace against the Software Center's PID (5211) for a while (twice, waiting a couple of minutes between the two traces). The output is in the files strace_software_center.txt and strace_software_center.2.txt. >From how I understand the output, the software_center (PID 5211) seems to be doing some inter-process communication on file descriptors 6 and 7.
