As an additional note AFAIK this only happened when VirtualBox was running. Although I don't know if this is related to the fact that VirtualBox is running or the fact that there is small amount of free memory available on the system when it is running. And again I would like to emphasize that there is no SWAP enabled on the system, but this already happened when there was and this is why I switched it of.
