I think Anupam is right. This is a duplicate of bug #1309731. I guess we would need the drivers to the headphone controls in the kernel, and I'm not sure it would work for all headphone controls out in the market.
When pressing those buttons the system should send the right events so the indicator-sound could listen to them. The indicator-sound has nothing to do with this, as it just listens the commands.
