  The same situation with the same results but in 16.04 Xenial Release - 
sudo_1.8.16-0ubuntu1_amd64.deb.
  
  The problem is resolved by installing the Trusty sudo package -
  sudo_1.8.9p5-1ubuntu1.1_amd64.deb.
