On the bright side, upstream has ameliorated this issue considerably in drm-intel-nightly and the vanilla 4.9-rc1 kernels.
So far the upstream bug has suggested two patches for kernel 4.8.x that reduce the flickering - with those patches, it only occurs a few times a day for me instead of every few seconds or minutes. Maybe we could cherry-pick those patches? ** This bug is no longer a duplicate of bug 1626935 [yakkety] desktop is black and/or flickering after plugging in a second monitor -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1627214 Title: Random display flickering on Kernel 4.8 with dual-screen To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1627214/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
