The situation seems to be somewhat improved in 4.11-rc1, but still far
from completely reliable. Out of 3 boot attempts with the workaround
removed, 1 was successful... the other 2 hung (seemingly) just as
before. While this is certainly encouraging, it appears that
"nouveau.modeset=0" is still required for the machine to consistently
boot successfully.
