A small update: I have upgraded my system to Linux Mint 18.1. However,
there are problems installing new kernels and it has stuck with the old
3.16.0-24 kernel from before the upgrade. From the update manager I
tried installing both the standard 4.4 kernel that should've been
installed in the upgrade and the latest possible one, 4.10-24. In both
cases there are errors with the locale en_US:utf8 and, more relevant
here, it shows there's an issue in the driver for the Elantech touchpad.
Despite these errors, the update manager says the kernel installed, but
when rebooting I cannot boot into the newer kernels. What should I do?
