Dave, not all vendors ship updated microcode in a timely manner. This is
rarely the case on consumer motherboards, hopefully the situation is
better on servers.

Also, there is a debate here, between the maintainer of the package and
the SRU team. If I understand correctly, the package includes both part
of the delivery mechanism (which also depends on the kernel version) and
the Intel binary blobs. The maintainer wants to keep it that way (less
of a burden going forward), but this means it is very hard to backport
it to Trusty. The SRU team is interested in backporting only the Intel
binary blobs, which would also work for Trusty, but this would fork the
way the package is created, and means more work going forward.

There is also the matter of doing this properly, not just fixing the
issue currently under the spotlight, but also ensuring more timely
microcode updates in the long run.
