This file was a workaround, done outside of packaging. The touchpad has frequently been a problem over the lifetime of the laptop, through multiple Ubuntu releases.
The problem historically was that the touchpad was flakey, and would often freeze, jitter, move all over the place. Many users of this laptop added the blacklist. I was one of those users. Here's one reference going back to Ubuntu-14.04: https://askubuntu.com/questions/593466/xps13-touchpad-issues- with-14-04-2 Here's a more recent entrance. https://askubuntu.com/questions/134627/how-do-i-get-the-touchpad- settings-working-on-a-dell-xps-13-ultrabook I noticed that I recreated this file on October 27, 2017, probably after the 17.10 upgrade. But I have been using this file for years. Hence my slowness at remembering the file. Perhaps something changed so that could no longer be blacklisted without losing the touchpad. Also, I notice that the touchscreen seems to work. I had it disabled for so long that I had stopped testing it. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1737639 Title: Touchpad stopped working in Dell XPS13 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1737639/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
