Update to #37 and #38 reporting the issue on 16.04 LTS: The issue went
away as silently as it initially came. Ran another apt update/upgrade
today, totally different packages updated and then rebooted.
'Authentication Failure' in the lock screen is now gone, even after
several reboots.

For completeness here are the packages that updated, I don't see a
